Celebrate Vulcan Park and Museum's 10th Anniversary
Saturday, March 8 - $1 OFF Admission All Day!
On Saturday, March 8, Vulcan® Park and Museum celebrates 10 years since reopening to the public in 2004 following Vulcan’s restoration. “We are inviting all of Birmingham to come celebrate this milestone with us by offering a $1 OFF admission to park and museum visitors throughout the day” stated Cristina M. Almanza, Director of Marketing and PR for Vulcan Park and Museum.
Today Vulcan stands proudly overlooking Birmingham as a strong symbol of our city’s pride and potential. However, a little over ten years ago his pedestal sat empty and his park grounds were closed to visitors due to years of neglect and weathering.
In the late nineties, when it became clear that Vulcan was experiencing serious structural problems, Vulcan Park Foundation was formed to raise the money needed to restore Vulcan to his original glory. The pieces of Vulcan were sent to Robinson Iron and Steel that repaired (and in some cases recast) - using original drawings from the artist Moretti. And in 2003, all of Birmingham watched with anticipation as each piece of the statue was lifted onto the restored original sandstone pedestal. Finally, in March 2004 Vulcan Park and Museum officially opened to the public presenting the beautifully restored statue, lush park grounds and interactive museum to share Birmingham’s unique history.
Vulcan Park and Museum invites the public to come celebrate Birmingham’s iconic statue, enjoy the museum featuring Birmingham’s history and take in spectacular city views from atop Red Mountain.
