For years, Independence Day celebrations in the greater Birmingham area have culminated with families gathering to watch fireworks, hear great music and to celebrate our nations' independence.  On Sunday, July 4, 2010, at 9:00 p.m., Thunder on the Mountain 2010, Birmingham's traditional fireworks demonstration, will once again illuminate the skies above Birmingham's beloved iron man, Vulcan. Free to the public, this year's show will last approximately 20 minutes and will feature a variety of firework shells that will brighten the sky with new colors and patterns. Thunder on the Mountain 2010 is presented by Alabama Education Association and Dale's Seasoning with additional support from the Birmingham Area NAPA AutoCare CentersEBSCO Industries, Inc., Vulcan Materials, Callahan Eye Foundation HospitalFive Points South Neighborhood Association, COX Media Group, FOX6 WBRC-TV, Pyro Productions and Vulcan Park and Museum.

Can I watch the fireworks from Vulcan Park and Museum?
No. The fireworks are launched from the park grounds of Vulcan Park and Museum. For safety purposes, Vulcan Park and Museum and its surrounding 10-acre park will close to the public at 6 pm on July 4th. At this time, the entire park grounds and parking lots will be cleared out and closed.

Where is the best place to view the fireworks?
For the best viewing experience, make sure you have a clear view of Vulcan!  Prime viewing locations include Five Points South, Homewood, Vestavia, Mountain Brook, UAB campus, among others. Based on growing crowds in recent years, organizers are advising spectators to stake out a viewing point well in advance of the 9 p.m. show.

What radio station will play the official soundtrack for Thunder on the Mountain 2010?
COX Media Group is the exclusive radio broadcast sponsor for Thunder on the Mountain 2010. Tune in to any of the following stations to hear the specially recorded musical soundtrack: 104.7 FM WZZK, 106.9 The Eagle, 97.3 The Buck, 101.9 FM WENN, 95.7 JAMZ, 98.7 Kiss FM, and 610 Heaven WAGG. Listeners can expect to hear a variety of musical genres including mainstream pop, rock, country, among others. 

Will the fireworks show be televised? 
Yes. FOX6 WBRC-TV is the exclusive television broadcast sponsor for Thunder on the Mountain 2010 and will broadcast the show live at 9 p.m.

Is there a charge to watch the fireworks?
No! Thunder on the Mountain 2010 is free to the public thanks to the generous monetary support of the Alabama Education Association, Dale's Seasoning, Birmingham Area NAPA AutoCare Centers, EBSCO Industries, Inc., Vulcan Materials, Callahan Eye Foundation Hospital and Five Points South Neighborhood Association.
